The panzer grenadier regiments both had engineer companies attached, but the panzer regiment did not. Basically this meant that engineer plans were part of the divisional plans, and supply and deployment were made by an engineer staff at division. I can see how having your engineer staff at division would be helpful in the great retreats of 1944, but I bet having your charges so dispersed within such a large organization made those units less effective than a separate independent battalion. -----------------------------------------COMMENTS---------------------------------------- |
