Movement Conventions at FLGWC
2009-11-26

by: badanov

I am just now starting to program unit operational movement. The unit movement module will have some very simple conventions.

Six types of movement exist, each governed by the unit supply level:

  • Retreat: Standard one kilometer per hour ( kph ) movement away from the Forward Line of Our Troops (FLOT). Any supply level permits this action. Strong rear guards.
  • Withdraw: One half kilometer per hour ( kph ) movement away from the Forward Line of Our Troops (FLOT). Any supply level permits this action. Minimal rear guard. Unit is vulnerable to damage under an enemy attack
  • Road March: Two kilometers per hour ( kph ) movement anywhere. Should not be used to move towards from FLOT. Provides near zero protection in event of enemy attack. Mobile supply level or better is required for this action.
  • March: Standard one kilometer per hour ( kph ) movement anywhere. Static supply level or higher permits this action. Provides minimal, only slightly better security than road march.
  • Advance: One half kilometer per hour ( kph ) movement anywhere. Mobile supply level or higher required for this action. Provides the strongest security.
  • Attack: No movement needed. Only a target unit is required Mobile supply level is required for this action.

Unit orders are executed simultaneously. Movement calculated in one hour increments. 18 hours per instance. AS movement is resolved unit proximity is resolved as well. Units between zero and two kilometers away from each other are automatically considered to be engaged. The AI will double patrols as well as the damaged from patrols. AI will also automatically start artillery attacks.

Movement stops once an enemy unit is within two kilometers, and the time that event occurred is recorded.

Units between two and five kilometers apart are the same as those in close proximity except they are not considered engaged. Unit commanders still has a choice as to his target.
