Notre Dame has been turning it on against opponents and it doesn't matter where, home or away. The mix of plays the Fighting Irish used last week combined to upset Third Ranked Michigan at home, 17-10.

The win rocketed Notre Dame to 10th, while Michigan dropped to 14th.

We have to admit we did not take Notre Dame seriously even after the pasting they delivered to ranked Pitt in week one, 42-21, and we expected Michigan to beat Notre Dame.

This week, Notre Dame stopped Michigan rushing, keeping them to 118 yards total. The week before Michigan rushed for 209 yards against Northern Illinois in a 33-17 victory in the home opener. Notre Dame also had a problem rushing with just 115 yards rushing. The knocks against the Michigan defense last year were not present this year, plus Michigan likely wasn't taking Notre Dame as seriously as they should have. Starting out this season the Irish were no where near the top 25.

This game was a defensive battle from the start and the low score is good indicator of that. Michigan's defense suffered some blows last year mostly in points allowed, so a clear improvement has taken place at Ann Arbor.

Next week, Michigan State hosts Notre Dame, while Michigan hosts Eastern Michigan.
