You gotta feel sorry for the Gators. In the Top Five nationally, 17-0 going into the road game at Tennessee, losing then dropping two in a row by losing at Columbia against South Carolina.

Now Tennessee is first in the SEC East at 5-1 and Florida is tied with Vanderbilt and Kentucky for second place.

Florida, in spite of its amazing 17-2 record, must defeat visitor Vanderbilt Saturday.

The Vanderbilt game won't be an easy one since Vanderbilt is currently first in the SEC in scoring defense and three point percentages. In most other statistics categories Florida and Vanderbilt are very close. This game will be a real struggle for Florida to remain viable in a very tough conference. And Florida has some problems.

Florida is fielding a still-hurt Corey Brewer. And Brewer's field goals percentages is bested by five other players on the Florida squad, likely part of playing hurt.

Florida has two tough games after Vanderbilt, at Mississippi and then hosting Kentucky before hosting South Carolina.

Florida could well drop two or three more before they turn things around.

In the SEC West, things are a little more cut and dried.

LSU at 5-1 has a death grip on first and plays 3-2 Mississippi at Mississippi.

LSU is currently third in the SEC in scoring offense and fourth in scoring defense and second in field goal percentages and first in field goal defense percentages. A win here will only solidify their hold in the SEC West.

Alabama, currently tied with Mississippi for second i the SEC West, hosts Mississippi State Saturday and a win here will place Alabama in sole possession of second place.
