Subject: Weekly Summary of Combat Operations, from January 8th to January 14th, Inclusive.

Message begins:

The tempo of combat operations continued at a steady pace.

Chernarus Defense, Naval and air forces have engaged in four operations in three regions

1) A hastily assembled task force for 2nd Bn, Chernarus 13th Separate Mountain Motorized Rifle Brigade was ordered to Werferlingen to effect an evacuation of friendly troops facing a massed attack by separatists.

A similar operation was successfully conducted last week. This time two rifle squads and two technicals were sent to Werferlingen city to engage an enemy force preparing to attack.

In relief operations it is paramount to move as many mobile forces to the area of operation as possible, in order to limit damage to the relieving forces as much as possible.

Attacks against those forces were intense, so much as that by the time the cover element of the relief force arrived, both squad were down to a single element.

At that point the mission was a failure because one of the squads were wiped out. The relieving force commander decided to have a little payback.

The tactical plan was for 2nd squad, with one BRDM scout car, to move to the main highway bridge and place enemy forces there under fire. 3rd squad was ordered to the northwest bridge under the cover of the two tanks in the relief force.

Command squad would move to the southwest bridge, move across with a BRDM scout car providing heavy machine gun fire support, and roll up the flanks of enemy troops know to be there still.

After crossing the bridge command squad engaged several enemy foot mobiles. However, a T-34/85 tank appeared in the railyard. In attempting to direct friendly tanks to the area, the commander was killed.

At that point, he operation was aborted and the relief force retreated to the battalion forward zone.

2)1st Bn, Chernarus 13th Separate Mountain Motorized Rifle Brigade was given the task to cover the evacuation of civilians from Gross Steinum in Werferlingen Saturday evening.

Earlier those citizens had complained to the town mayor about threats issued through text, email and from local separatist sympathizers threatening them bodily harm if they didn't give up money and food to local separatist groups.

The mayor charted a bus to evacuate the civilians, but the separatists warned they would attack if that plan was implemented.

The mayor prevailed on the brigade commander to cover the civilians' evacuation from the threats of attacks. The separatists warned they would attack within hours.

The assembled task force deployed along a broad arc in the north with one tank to the west, and one tank covering an inbound road and the rifles sections deploying in the town itself.

The attacks, when they came, were very light, but they were enough to inflict a mobility kill on the tank, and destroy a scout car moved there to cover for infiltrations.

When the two trucks evacuating the civilians cleared town safely, the task force was ordered to retreat to Supplingenburg and await further orders.

3) The first mission for 2nd Bn, Chernarus 24th Separate Light Mountain Rifle Brigade was to clear Gieraltow in Livionia Sunday morning, and to eliminate the two separate troop commanders who initiated the invasion of the town.

The march to Gieraltow took an hour and included two tanks from the brigade commander's personal guard and two BRDM scout cars from brigade recon company.

In the run up to the fight the rifle group encountered a separatist foot patrol outside of Nadbor. The patrol killed one in 2nd squad before they were eliminated.

The tactical plan was for all three rifle squads to advance along the main road into town, 3rd squad in the south, 2nd squad in the north and command squad along the road itself. Enemy counterfire was intense.

An AA gun, one of three assigned the force to be destroyed, destroyed a tank, but was itself destroyed by rifle squad. No other AA guns were present.

Ivan Platanov and a female assistant were killed by CDF forces. The deputy commander of command squad, who assumed overall command of the operation in the wake of the killing of the commander, took possession of the documents found on her person.

It was at that point enemy reinforcements started to appear. The force commander ordered the force to retreat to the crossroads halfway between Nadbor and Gieraltow. As the enemy closed to the task force, the commander was twice forced to rescue 3rd squad as it attempted to escape.

Casualties were moderate. Command squad lost three including the commander, 2nd squad lost two, and 3rd squad lost seven. One tank was destroyed by enemy action. The enemy lost at least one BRDM and both technicals posted to town.

4) A Chernarus Defense Forces special forces team, attached directly to Chernarus 2nd Rifle Corps was ordered to Karabatovo in Beketov to eliminate a pair of top separatist commanders.

The two commanders, Simeon Sevic and Dasha Bilyalova, were two of their top military trainers, sent to Karabatovo to round up recruits for the separatist forces.

The team inserted to their area of operation seamlessly and entered town just as the team's air cover, an army MI-24 gunship, arrived. The team located the house used by the commander. The team commander, however, was killed exchanging gunfire with the separatists' security detail.

The team's second in command completed the job, seized documents found on the dead body of Bilyalova, and returned to an extract point, where they were transported back to Chernarus 17th Separate Rifle Brigade headquarters.

No other casualties were reported in the operation.

There were no other casualties.
