After a lengthy road march, the task force attacked and cleared the airfield of mostly local militia. The task force commander was killed in clearing a building which housed some Russian naval infantry special forces.

Counterattack further sapped the strength of the task force as it marched on to Popokatetl. Command squad commenced its attack from the southeast to a sector to the east of town, then swept to the west.

After clearing the town, the task force proceeded northwest to the river crossing near Zichivice, where it came under attack by no fewer than two enemy foot patrols. Tank 2 was disabled and Tank 3 refused to move forward.

Despite command squad's best efforts, the task force could not clear the block. The operation was abandoned.

Field counts of enemy losses included four BRDM scout cars.

The tactical attack plan was for the four rifle squads to attack from the southeast and southwest. As the infantry forces closed in, BRDM scout cars approached from the south to provide heavy machine gun fire support.

Command squad reached a location to find the dead body of an enemy command operative, stripping him of intel documents. As the task was performed a final mortar barrage fell on command squad, killing five.
