One company resversed engineered Microsoft's patch and created an exploit. The new worm affects the latest versions of Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 Server

This new worm is critical because it allows remote execution of code, permitting an attacker to overtake a Windows computer with administrators's right.

The US Dept. of Homeland Security has even gotten into the act reminder internet computer users to download and install the patch.

Widespread explots have yet to be released, but local attacks have been detected.

The main defense against this new threat is getting and installing MS updates, and keeping port 139 and 445 blocked by both onboard personal firewalls and on routers.

We recall reading somewhere a tiny bit ago that this new exploit is just a base problem. A whole host of internet worms, trojans and viruses are expected to come of this vulnerability.
