So, it has come to this humiliating moment for former USC star Matt Leinart: cut from the Arizona Cardinals after four years.

Leinart is the poster boy for what happens in the NFL. If you look at team rosters you will find a large number of football players who weren't ever considered very good; players such as Tony Romo, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and the recently released New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce.

Both Romo and Pierce were walk-ons. If you look at the accolades and the "pedigree", neither athlete had a very good chance of succeeding in pro football, and yet they both did.

Again, stressing the point, this is system wide. Owners, coaches and fans want a great football player, but coaches understand it is a journey. You are expected to work to get your position and paycheck and you are expected to work to keep it.

And you won't be successful all the time, but it doesn't matter as long as long as you work at it.

Leinart doesn't get it. As a pretty boy college star, he expected everything to be handed to him in the NFL, and when it doesn't work out that way, no biggie.

You can only trade on your former star status for so long. If you want to get where you want to go, you have to work hard at it.

Until Leinart gets that, he will be cut from team to team.

If you have something to add, Fire Away!
