Alabama goes to South Carolina and proves not only can you win with a great defense, you can lose without one, as they crushed South Carolina 37-14.

The only stats that really stands out are the rushing stats. The Tide rushed for more than 330 yards to USC's 71 yards total rushing. Passing was not much of a factor as Alabama ran the ball more than 50 times to the Gamecocks' 17 carries, while passing for both teams amounted to less than 300 yards. This is very revealing since it seems to indicate that than USC did run, they weren't very successful. Seemingly a decision was made to let the Gamecock defense regain the ball and try to pass to gain the lead, but that was a bad plan, too.

We are unable to find the statistic, but we heard on the radio broascast that Alabama's time of possession was twice as much as USC's, a statistic not mentioned in any reports we have read. This points to a strong Alabama defense, strong enough to hold USC to only 71 yards of rushing.

Next week Alabama hosts Arkansas, a game which will be presumably televised, while USC hosts Troy.

If you have something to add, Fire Away!
