I had a long commentary about this pissing match, but instead, I just want to point out a few things.
This campaign against Alex Knepper could easily backfire. Any number of unforeseen events can intervene to turn News Real Blog's campaign against Knepper against them. They are dealing with an unhinged gay man who has fancied himself a conservative, and the number of unpleasant scenarios far outweigh whatever benefit can be derived from this campaign.
If you run personnel, or if you have run a business then you have to know that you will make crappy personnel decisions. It's inevitable. And the only way you can temper a crappy decision is to make subsequently better ones, and the one true way you can make things much, much worse is to continue making the same decisions that got you here.
My advice to Swindle and to Horowitz is simple: Airbrush the guy out of your life, as has been done by Breitbart, Newsbusters and the Daily Caller. Do not respond to Knepper's baiting; let him say whatever he wants to say, as long as it is not actionable.
Send an email to your writers who are still with you outlining exactly what happened and why you had to do this, and then just go about your business.
What Swindle is doing now just ain't worth the traffic they will generate, in my estimation.
One of the silliest remarks I have read about this is from one of the authors of the linked article, David Swindle:
"Understand: this has nothing to do with homosexuality. My co-author and I may be conservatives but we're both pro-gay and pro-gay marriage. So we certainly want to help gays cull the pedophiles trying to use homosexuality as a cover for their evil urges."
"Pro-Gay" sounds like a golf accessory line:
"Buy the Pro-Gay Critter Poop Scraper, for only $9.95, and if you act now, we will throw in ten custom lettered golf tees, free. Available at finer pro shops everywhere."
And I won't even address the silliness of the claim that he is conservative and pro gay marriage. Swindle just sounds like he's making the same kind of claims Knepper makes.
