Message begins:

The tempo of combat operations continued at an increased pace.

Chernarus Defense, Naval and air forces have engaged in six operations in three regions.

1) Friday morning, 2nd Bn Chernarus 13th Separate Mountain Rifle Brigade was ordered to attack and clear the town of Eschenrode in Werferlingen.

Enemy presence in that vicinity had included separatists capturing Werferlingen two weeks ago, three kilometers to the west, and Ribbenstedt one week ago, four kilometers to the north.

Brigage recon staff concluded that the separatists planned to hold the line Werferlingen-Ribbenstedt-Behnsdorf, and would launch probes and attacks to the south.

Separatists had established an antiaircraft battery to the northwest of town, and were in the beginning stages of clearing out political opponents. As a result, battalion commander ordered the elimination of the two top commanders of the operation, Viktor Kaba and Lyudmila Grigorieva.

The weather was clear but very cold, and given the location, the tactical plan was to rush the town from the east and speedily penetrate the separatists' defensive zone in the town.

Both 2nd squad and 3rd squad encountered heavy enemy resistance, as did command squad. 2nd squad was ordered to move west through town in the south, 3rd squad in the north.

When the infantry group arrived on the western edge of town, they became pinned down by heavy AA fire, and enemy rifle counterfire. The intervention of Tank 2, originally positioned to the southwest, destroyed the AA guns.

The commander was killed, so his second in command continued the operation, locating and eliminating the two operatives. Some intelligence documents were seized.

After receiving the order to retreat, the acting commander ordered the task force to retreat east to Horsingen, and established a defensive front there.

Just as the last infantry squad was leaving, enemy armor arrived. The task force escaped town by minutes.

Casualties were very heavy. 2nd squad lost six, while 3nd squad lost seven. One tank was destroyed by a BTR-80, and one scout car was destroyed by enemy RPG gunners.

2) Saturday morning a task force from 1st Bn, Chernarus 13th Separate Mountain Motorized Rifle Brigade was ordered to Mariental (Horst) in Werferlingen to defend against an expected armored attack by separatists. This attack operation by separatists was the first to go south of Grasleben in many weeks.

The tactical plan was for the task force, including reinforcing units, to form a solid line running northeast to southwest to catch separatist forces from entering town.

Two enemy infantry attacks took place on the west side of the line early in the defensive operation, around the positions of command squad and 2nd squad. Those attacks were stopped.

Enemy vehicle attacks began shortly thereafter, in repeated fashion. Tanks covered the western edge of the line, catching a number of enemy vehicles. Field counts were: three destroyed BRDMs, four BMPs, two T-55s, and one T-34/85.

When the order to withdraw came, the commander ordered the task force to retreat to Mariental.

Casualties were moderate. 2nd squad lost two and command squad lost two. One of the relieving BTR squad's BTR was destroyed along with four of their squad.

3) A private contractor team went to Deniland with the task for destroying a helicopter owned by Wagner PMC Sunday morning.

The team was wiped out when they attempted to clear a village.

4) A private contractor team was sent to a location in Deniland to destroy separatist assets and to clear an area on Wednesday.

Overall, the mission was successful, but costly with half the team lost.

5) Thursday morning a Chernarus Defense Forces spetsnaz team was ordered to eliminate an enemy operative in Summa. An subsequent mission was ordered to locate and destroy an enemy technical.

Both missions were completed successfully without the losses.

6) A rifle group formed from elements of 1st Bn Chernarus 4th Separate Light Rifle Brigade was ordered to attack and recapture the village of Orlovets early Thursday morning.

The village was taken over by a separatist force commanded by Jovan Koncerevic and Nina Ivanovic Wednesday morning. Battalion recon staff had very little information about this criminal command group, the assumption being the two operatives were new.

Also at Orlovets was an AA battery consisting of three ZU-23 AA guns, which were ordered to be destroyed.

The tactical plan was for 3rd squad to attack and destroy the AA battery, which was positioned on the west side of the village. 2nd squad would penetrate to the middle of Orlovets and then turn northwest to hold the town against potential enemy reinforcements coming from the northwest.

Command squad would attack the western side,. then execute a turning movement to the southeast. Their main task would be the elimination of the criminal command group.

In the approach march, command squad was caught in the impact zone of separatist artillery fire, losing four before they even got to the village. Command squad encountered heavy resistance as they moved towards the criminal command group's hide out.

When 3rd squad refused to attack the AA guns, command squad took a hand in the task, but lost all but two. Overall command of the operation was then passed to the commander of 3rd squad, which also lost all but two.

By the time the AA guns were destroyed, separatist reinforcements arrived and did considerable damage. Command squad and 3rd squad were effectively wiped out, leaving 2nd squad alone.

The SU-25 ground interdiction fighter assigned to the mission was shot down, and the pilot bailed out safely.

2nd squad retreated from Orlovets, and had rescued the downed fighter pilot. The pilot was boarded aboard one of the BRDM for evacuation.

The mission was completed successfully, but at a heavy cost with 22 of 31 dead.
