Ouch! Bomar Kicked Off OU Squad subject logo: COLSPORTS

We were expecting OU quarterback Rhett Bomar to be dismissed for alchohol.

Our contention has been if the grains don't get Bomar, he will have a pretty good year.

Now comes the news that Bomar, already on probation for drinking, has been dismissed from the Oklahoma Sooner football team for taking money from a local car dealership.

Bomar, who in 2005-2006 failed to make the cut for starting quarterback was subsequently bumped to the head of the slot after a dismal performance by Paul Thompson in the opener.

At that time OU had a great and experienced offensive line, so getting Bomar up to speed wasn't such a task. The young man had problems early on, but wound up with a pretty good year and plus 2,000 yards passing.

Earlier this summer came the news that OU was preparing to run a totally inexperienced offensive line, very bad news under any conditions. But as it turned out three out of the five offensive lineman were starters and the other two were rookies or weren't starters from last year.

Irritating to be sure, but it was something that could be worked out as the season progressed. After all, Bomar was only going to get better. Everyone in Norman knew it.

Now, not only is Bomar gone, but one of the projected starters on the rebuilding offensive line, Bomar's roommate J.D. Quinn, was also kicked off the team

A fan we spoke with this afternoon tried to spin it positively, but to us there is little doubt this will hurt.

The only players OU has available at quarterback are another redshirt freshman and a JUCO transfer, neither of which have yet to take a snap in any NCAA Div. 1A game.

The only positive aspect to this story if you're a Sooner fan is that this happened just before the start of drills.

OU head coach Bob Stoops and staff have just three weeks to prep a quarterback for their opener against University of Alabama-Birmingham Septemer 2nd.

If you have something to add, Fire Away!
