Tonight's theme is hammer.

We are putting together an East Front II wargame scenario we are naming “The Hammer” and reading about the Buckeye's first loss of the season reminded us again of a hammer.

The Both teams hammered the other with treys totaling 63 points.

But North Carolina won at the charity strip 22-8 and by out rebounding Ohio State 38-25. Everything else is even, so it follows that the Buckeyes lost their composure at defense because of North Carolina.

North Carolina's home stand didn't hurt the Tarheels one tiny bit either, we'd bet.

Ohio State goes for a two game home stand against Cleveland State and Valpraiso before going on the road to play the Cincinnati Bearcats Dec. 16th.

Ohio State is now 6-1 and likely to drop out of the Associated Press top five with the strong showing of North Carolina. The rebounding numbers also will give sportswriters pause when ranking Ohio State in the top five. The Buckeyes will probably have to hammer a top ten team as hard as they got hammered before getting back into anyone's good graces.

North Carolina's win is the first of a five game home stand that includes Kentucky next Saturday.

Kentucky's (4-2) hard times from last season continues with the Wildcats dropping two losses against ranked teams this month, Memphis and UCLA. We suspect Kentucky will drop this game Saturday as well.

Just a guess.

North Carolina is 5-1 with it's only loss against Gonzaga earlier this month.
