Auburn went 12-0 last year, as did USC, but they failed to get a championship berth because, according to Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, the popular vote element of the BCS.

Tuberville said the new mix with the USA Today Poll and the Harris Interactive poll changes very little. Tuberville would prefer to settle matters on the field and not by a poll.

But this story points out that Auburn is rebuilding after a lot of experienced seniors graduated. Tuberville thinks this year's Tigers are the most talented he has seen yet, but he added the talent lacks experience.

Looking over their spring depth chart, the Tigers are hurting in nearly every category, especially in the defense. The AP story suggests that Auburn is lacking in its backfield as well.

Auburn's strength this years seems to lie in its offensive line, which they will need since the Tigers will have to play a new quarterback and a new tailback.

Auburn opens the 2005 season by hosting Georgia Tech at home Sept. 3rd.
