Yahoo! Sport analyst Terry Bowden looks at the SEC, and his conclusion is Tennessee and LSU will finish at the top, and will play for the SEC championship.

Those are the safe bets. The SEC is loaded with talent, but the mix could be quite different by December.

We make that statement because of Florida and Alabama. Florida will be playing the already great Chris Leak at quarterback, and will start the season with what we believe will be a pretty good Wyoming team. If Florida handily dispatches Wyoming, we believe this will be a serious warning sign for Tennessee when they come to play the Gators in Gainsville, September 24th, two weeks later.

Florida is a strong team, but it is not a dark horse. That will be Alabama's role ( run intended ) this year.

The Tide has a very good schedule this season playing all the Big Bad SEC monsters at home, save for the last game at Auburn. The Tide will be returning nine experienced players to its roster on defense, and its quarterback Brodie Croyle is will be starting, after being laid up most of last year..

Under Mike Shula, Alabama has had winning seasons, albeit the Tide hasn't been swept into the national championship mix. The Tide may not this year even, but a lot of factors are in Alabama's favor.

Alabama opens its season September 3rd against Middle Tennessee at home.

Tennessee opens its season against University of Alabama at Birmingham at home.

LSU opens its season at home against North Texas State.
