Nine Die in gang Violence
Nine people lost their lives in violence in northern Mexico,including several attacks against State Police in Durango.
- A minor drug dealer was shot to death in his home Friday night in Juarez, according to Mexican news reports.
Daniel Sánchez Torres, 40, was shot to death and his wife was wounded when armed suspects entered their home hear the intersection of Yaquiz and Carlos Amaya in the Azteca district of Juarez.
- Three unidentified men were shot to death in two different cases in Juarez, say Mexican news reports.
Two of the victims were at a hamburger stand early Saturday morning near the intersection of Témoris and Escalón streets in the Km 5 district. One of the victims attempted to flee the assault but was caught meters away.
The other victim, said to be in his 50s, was shot to death near the intersection of Tepejàdel Rio and Avándaro streets in the Rincón del Valle district of Juarez.
- Two men were shot to death and another woman was wounded in an attack in Chihuahua late Thursday night, indicate Mexican news reports.
The attack took place near the intersection of Columbus and Pascual Orozco streets in the Revolución district. The victims were apparently riding in a Honda Civic when the attack occurred.
Investigators at the scene found several spent cartridge casings for a .45 weapon.
- An unidentified woman in her 20s was found shot to death Saturday morning in Juarez, say Mexican news reports.
The victim was found near the intersection of Bulevard Cuatro Siglos and Bulevard Independencia in southeasten Juarez. Investigators found four spent cartridges casing at the scene, but did not release the weapon caliber information.
- Two people were shot to death and a unidentified victim was wounded by a stray bullet in an attack in Juarez Saturday morning, Mexican news reports indicate.
Reports are the gunmen attempted to trick their way into a residence near the intersection of Montes de Catal and Cedro la Laguna streets, in the Urbi Villa del Cedro district, by asking for food.
The female victim, Griselda Sifuentes Sandoval, in her 40s, refused to open the door. The gunmen forced their way inside and started shooting.
In other developments:
- About 500 agents of the Mexican PolicÃÂa Federal Preventiva (PFP) arrived in Nogales, Sonora Friday morning, according to Mexican news reports.
The deployment is expected to beef up areas with known criminal activity such as abductions, gang turf fights and drug trafficking.
About 250 agents would be deployed in Nogales, with others going to Agua Prieta, Naco, as well as in Altar and Sásabe, Sonora.
Information released say about 20 patrols around Nogales would begin immediately.
Many of the agents were redeployed from Tijuana, Baja California and of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The agents are expected to be in Nogales indefinately.
- The secretary of Seguridad Pública del Estado de Durango was attacked Friday, say Mexican news reports.
ValentÃÂn Romano was unharmed after a convoy in which he was riding was attacked by armed suspects. Four police agents were wounded in the attack.
The attack took place near the Escuela de Pintura de la Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango (UJED).
Reports are that another attack took place against the Director Operativo de la PolicÃÂa Estatal Preventiva (PEP) who was wounded in a gunfight.
Minutes later armed suspects attacked State Police agents using three fragmentary hand grenades, but only one detonated. The attack took place near the intersection of Bulevar Durango and Calle Banderas in Durango.
The State Police agents were wounded in the attack.
An attack against Durango State Police agents also took place at CERESO No.1 on the Durango-Gómez Palacio highway, where they were monitoring the prison.
No reports of injury were indicated in the CERESO attack.
